Tradursi: In Italics / En Italiques di Antonio D’Alfonso
Keywords:
esilio, diario, autotraduzione, culturaAbstract
Self- Translating: In Italics / En Italiques by Antonio D’Alfonso
The sequence of the three editions – In Italics of 1996 and En italiquesdel of 2000 and 2005 – shows how the collection , depending on where it was published, appears as the diary of an exiled intellectual, or as an apologetic memoir of someone who has rejected the culture he was born into, but feels rejected from. By switching languages the author’s effort seems to be that of reaching a universal audience- without ever succeeding, and obliging him to weave and unweave that Penelope’s shroud which his text has turned into.
