Il saggio ricostruisce il musical “West Side Story”, partendo dalla fonte shakespeariana e individuando il ruolo degli artisti che collaborarono ad esso. Analizza poi il passaggio dal testo teatrale al testo filmico e discute l’importanza della musica di Bernstein nei suoi rapporti col testo verbale e con la coreografia.
“West Side Story”: from Shakespeare to Hollywood, via Broadway
The essay analyzes the different dimensions of the musical “West Side Story”: its Shakespearean source and the role played by the different contributors. It compares musical, film, Bernstein’s music, script and choreography.
