No. 25 (2026): Trilingual Self-translation

					View No. 25 (2026): Trilingual Self-translation

Issue 25 of Oltreoceano, edited by Rainier Grutman and Fabio Regattin, is devoted to trilingual self-translation, a practice that has received far less critical attention than bilingual self-translation. The contributions gathered in this issue explore its different configurations and show that moving across three languages is not simply a quantitative extension of bilingualism, but profoundly calls into question the notions of original, translation, and authorial identity.
Alongside a theoretical framework and a proposed typology of trilingual self-translation, the issue brings together case studies and interviews focusing on writers who work across several languages and cultural traditions (Laia Fàbregas, Monika Zgustova, Luigi Donato Ventura, Felicia Mihali, Carlo Coccioli, Lisa Carducci, Jaroslav Melnik, and Amelia Rosselli). Through trajectories shaped by migration, exile, mobility, and editorial mediation, the contributions highlight the dynamic and recursive nature of self-translation, understood not merely as linguistic transfer but as a practice of rewriting and literary creation.
Taken together, the contributions show how trilingual self-translation provides a privileged perspective from which to investigate multilingualism, belonging, mobility, and the construction of literary identity.
