Writing is My Real Country
Italian, initially the language of home and love for the writer who emigrated to France as a child, soon becomes the symbol of painful intimacy and difference. To protect herself from nostalgia she chooses French, the language of freedom which she studies with passion. It is in Quebec, however, that she will find not only a new territory but above all a true home: writing. The sense of loss and difference remain central in her writings where she tries to grasp the profound, unconscious truth of existence.
