Keywords:
Messico, racconto, politica, terremotoAbstract
Seismic and political violence in the post-revolutionary Mexico. About “El día del derrumbe” by Juan Rulfo
The aim of the analysis of “El día del derrumbe” is to highlight how Juan Rulfo, using the subtle and bitter irony that characterizes his works, informs about some of the social evils that, even after the revolution, affect Mexico. The huge and expensive banquet organized to celebrate the arrival of the Governor – who has to assess the damages caused by the recent earthquake – becomes a metaphor of people’s exploitation and depredation. Moreover the violence that breaks out during the party is due to the presence – exclusively and absolutely formal and unnecessary – of this official representative of the State.
